Interview video
The interviews are important part of the research section of a documentary process as they can reveal answers to unanswered questions questions which might be important to creating your doc they can also be used by the filmmaker to help create certain effects in you're such as interviewing a crying person could help create a sad tone throughout you're doc but they can also be used to inform you of a certain subject but also help you understand an historic event much better than you already did.
Some techniques for questioning could involve the use of open questions which help get a more varied answer which may or may not contain the answer you want you could also used a closed question which helps you get a more exact answer out of the person but a multiple direction question can get at anything your interviewee but whenever you are interview a person you need to try your best at getting the most relaxed response from them that's why you need to help build confidence between the two of you to get the best answer possible.
Planning my interview with Janie
My plan with this interview is to use a more open questions to help build the focus of the doc but to find out as much as I can about her past what she did before buying the deli and what business tactics to help make it as successful as it is now compared to how it used to be.
I plan to use a continued shot of Janie on a chair in an area of the deli which she felt most comfortable so I could a relaxed so she can give me an accurate answer from her and sit the opposite side of the camera so she looks like she talking to me no the camera.
First Interview of Janie Thompson
The interview with Janie went well as the questions I asked gave me information on the past of the her and the deli and the past of the team she had back in the hoste arms but the criticism I have is that she kept on looking at the camera not at me also on my part her eyes didn't line up with the 9 imaginary lines on the camera and that there are too much headspace on the screen and that she didn't reiterate the question I asked which is not that bad. But the problem is I may not be able to use the footage.
Outcome of the interview
Finally the answers she gave me can help me bridge in an interview with the executive chef Gemma Arnold and the head of front of house Denise le gallez which could help expand my understanding of the deli.
Narration script for intro sequence
As an intro sequence of both stock pictures and captured footage.
The Thornham deli a place to relax eat and shop but.
It wasn't always like this before the current owner Janie Thompson acquired the deli it was a simple farm shop and deli. Due to this significant change in identity Janie has received both compliments and criticism in this short documentary I aim to show how the change in identity has affected both the deli and clientele but also the village itself welcome to the evolution of the Thornham deli.

On this page you demonstrate evidence of effective reflection through the critique of your previous interviews. What I would like to see is how you planned for these interviews, what questions did you ask each of them? And why? Where did you plan to conduct the interview? And why?
ReplyDeleteYou have begun writing a V.O script, but I would like to see this in the form of an Audio/Visual script. This will help you in thinking about what visuals you will need to accompany your interviews and what the voice over will need to do to create the structure for the piece.
